Swimming and Breast Prosthesis

Whether you have a full, partial or self supporting prosthesis you should still be able to take part in swimming.

As most breast prostheses are made from silicone, these can be used in chlorinated water, but should be rinsed thoroughly as soon as possible with clean water.  Please note that breast prostheses, particularly self supporting prostheses, have specific care instructions that should be followed closely to ensure that they are not damaged.

Swim prostheses are available and are specially made for swimming or for other sport usage.  This type of prosthesis is ideal for you if you are quite active, though you may have to pay for them.  Please check with your breast cancer nurse as to what is available to you.
